MEDdebate interviews paediatric cardiac surgeon, Dr David Anderson.

Professor David R. Anderson graduated in medicine from Cambridge University (1979). He trained in cardiac surgery at Guy’s Hospital, St George’s Hospital and Birmingham Children’s Hospital and researched skeletal muscle cardiac assist under Dr L W Stephenson in the USA, 1988-9.

In 1991, David was appointed consultant at Guy’s and Hunterian Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons.

He developed the neonatal cardiac surgery programme at Guy’s and pioneered Norwood surgery in the UK with Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Professor Anderson started the first hybrid programme in the UK for hypoplastic left heart syndrome in 2005, which is now the largest in the country.

He works with charities in developing countries and other nations, teaching complex cardiac surgery. He also holds honorary consultant positions in many countries.
